Woodbury Road Missionary Baptist Church was a result of a two-week revival held on the premises of Mr. Carl Smartt, with the Rev. L.G. Frey, Superintendent of Missions, Nashville, TN, doing the preaching. On October 26, 1947, the church was organized in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Rex Wiggs with 37 charter members. The church met in the Jakestown Skating Rink owned by Robert Lee Jakes until the building was completed. The land for the sanctuary was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Carl Smartt. On December 16, 1947, the church called its first pastor, 17-year-old Rev. Donald Rutledge
